Fleet Tracking + EWD Cellular / App-based

Live fleet tracking from your drivers’ phones.

OneRoad turns every driver’s phone into a cellular tracking device that’s tightly linked to their Electronic Work Diary (EWD). See location, movement and fatigue status on a live map – without installing black boxes in every truck.

Tracking is powered by driver devices over the mobile network – no workshop installs, no wiring, no downtime.

What is OneRoad mobile fleet tracking?

OneRoad’s mobile tracking module uses the same app your drivers use for EWD to broadcast secure, cellular-based GPS positions back to a central live map. You get real-time visibility of where each driver is, what they’re doing and how close they are to their fatigue limits – in one view.

Cellular, app-based – not hardware-bound
Roll out fleet tracking in days, not months.
  • Drivers install the OneRoad app, enable location sharing and start using their EWD – tracking begins immediately.
  • No need to book trucks into a workshop, run cables or wait for devices to be shipped.
  • Ideal for mixed fleets, subcontractors and owner-drivers where you don’t own every vehicle.
  • Upgrade to OBx hardware later for engine data, fuel, mass and FTC – without changing systems.

If a driver has a modern smartphone and coverage, you can see them on the map.

Location + fatigue in the same lens
Not just “dots on a map”.
  • Colour-coded markers and status pills show who is working, resting or approaching a breach.
  • Tap into any driver to see their current EWD status, hours used and next required break.
  • Filter views by depot, customer, contract, vehicle type or fatigue rule set.
  • Feed tracking and EWD events into the Dynamic Dashboard for deeper analytics and risk reporting.

Dispatch, compliance and operations finally share a single source of truth for where drivers are and how safe they are to keep moving.

Everything you need to stay on top of your fleet.

Live map
Real-time driver positions

See every active driver and trip on a single fleet map.

  • GPS positions from drivers’ phones over the mobile network.
  • Heading, speed and last update time per driver.
  • Cluster view for busy metros, zoom down to individual trucks.
Fatigue overlay
Status from the EWD

Overlay live fatigue states on the map.

  • Working, resting, approaching limit or in breach.
  • Quickly see who you need to call or reschedule.
  • Helps schedulers avoid sending the wrong driver to the next job.
Trip history
Playback and proof

Review where drivers went and when.

  • Daily traces and stop points per driver.
  • Quickly answer “were we there?” questions from customers.
  • Support investigations and incident reviews.
Alerts
Timely nudges, not noise

Cut the clutter and focus on real risk.

  • Alerts for drivers nearing fatigue limits.
  • Notifications when devices stop reporting.
  • Configurable thresholds for different fleets and lanes.
Role-based views
Control who sees what

Give each team the visibility they need.

  • Dispatch sees all active runs for their depot.
  • Compliance sees fatigue and route patterns by driver group.
  • Management sees high-level utilisation and performance.
Hardware optional
Pathway to full telematics

Start app-only, add devices when you’re ready.

  • Begin with cellular, app-driven tracking + EWD.
  • Add OBx for engine, PTO, mass and advanced data.
  • One platform, one set of logins, no re-training.

From driver phones to a live fleet map.

OneRoad’s mobile tracking keeps drivers in control of their EWD, while giving fleets the oversight they need to manage risk, service levels and customer expectations.

Step 1
Drivers install the OneRoad app

Each driver creates their account, sets up their EWD and enables location sharing on their phone. From the first shift, the fleet map starts populating with live positions.

Step 2
Fleet team configures views & alerts

Operations and compliance groups are set up with role-based access. You choose which depots, contracts or lanes each user can see, plus which alerts they receive.

Step 3
Run the fleet with live context

As drivers work, rest and move, the map and fatigue overlay update automatically. Dispatch uses real-time context to reassign jobs, while compliance monitors risk across the day.

Built for mixed, mobile and fast-moving fleets.

Mobile, cellular-based tracking is ideal when you don’t control every truck, your fleet changes regularly, or you need to get visibility in place before you commit to a full hardware rollout.

Owner-drivers & subbies – show location and fatigue status to prime contractors.
Small & mid fleets – get tracking + EWD visibility quickly without capex.
Large linehaul operators – manage hundreds of drivers and lanes with one live map.
Project & shuttle operations – see turnaround times, idle hotspots and delays.
Prime contractors & customers – gain confident, live oversight of subcontracted fleets.

Start with EWD + Tracking.

From $25.77 / driver per month (EWD + Tracking).

OneRoad’s EWD + Tracking bundle gives you live fleet visibility, fatigue monitoring and driver records in a single subscription. No separate tracking contract, no extra portals, no hardware lock-in.

Use mobile tracking as your entry point: begin with a handful of drivers or a pilot depot, prove the value, then expand across the fleet. When you’re ready for engine, PTO, mass or FTC data, add OBx units to selected vehicles and manage everything from the same dashboard.

Common questions about mobile tracking.

Do we need hardware in every truck to use tracking?

No. Mobile tracking is powered by the OneRoad app on each driver’s phone or tablet. As long as they have a compatible device and coverage, you’ll see them on the map. Hardware (OBx) is optional for extra data.

What happens if a driver loses coverage?

The app continues to log their movements, and sends updates when coverage returns. The map reflects the last known safe point and then “catches up” once new data arrives, so investigations still have a continuous trail.

Can we mix app-based tracking with hardware devices?

Yes. Many fleets start with mobile tracking and then add OBx to high-value or high-risk vehicles. The live map and dashboards show both app and hardware data together, so your team doesn’t need to switch systems.

How accurate is mobile, cellular-based tracking?

Modern smartphones provide high-quality GPS data. For most compliance and operational scenarios – ETAs, route adherence, fatigue oversight – mobile tracking is more than sufficient. Where you need precise engine, mass or PTO data, OBx can be added.

What about driver privacy?

Tracking is tied to duty status and your organisation’s policies. You can configure what’s visible to which roles, and drivers see when location sharing is active. Off-duty periods and personal use can be managed in line with your fatigue and privacy policies.

See your fleet in real time.
With mobile, cellular-based tracking linked directly to EWD, OneRoad gives you instant visibility of where every driver is and how safe they are to keep moving – without waiting for hardware installs. Start small, prove the value, then scale across your operation.
