Everything you need to get started and stay compliant using the OneRoad EWD driver app.

Section 1

Download & Install the App

The OneRoad EWD app is free on iOS and Android. Download it from your device's app store to get started.

iPhone & iPad

iOS 12.0 or later required

Android

Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) or later

During setup the app will ask permission to access your location, camera, and notifications. Tap Allow when prompted — these are required for EWD to function correctly.

Section 2

New to OneRoad? Follow these steps to create your driver account. You only need to do this once.

1

Open the app and tap "Continue with Mobile"

After the OneRoad splash screen loads, tap Continue with Mobile at the bottom of the screen.

2

Enter your mobile number

Type your Australian mobile number and tap Continue. OneRoad will send a 4-digit verification code via SMS.

3

Enter the SMS code

Enter the 4-digit code from your messages. If it doesn't arrive within 30 seconds, tap Resend code.

The code expires after 5 minutes. Tap Resend if it expires before you enter it.
4

Enter your personal details

Enter your first name, last name, and date of birth, tapping Continue after each field.

5

Verify your email address

Enter a valid email address and tap Continue. Check your inbox for a 4-digit code and enter it in the app to confirm.

6

Select your role — Driver

When prompted to choose a user type, select Driver. This configures your account for EWD compliance recording.

If you drive your own vehicle and also manage a small fleet, select Owner Operator instead. This gives you both driver and fleet management access.
7

Enter your driver licence details

Enter your licence number and expiry date. This links your EWD records to your verified identity.

Account setup complete. You're ready to start your first shift.

Section 3

Already have an account? Signing in takes less than a minute — no password needed.

1

Tap "Continue with Mobile"

On the splash screen, tap Continue with Mobile.

2

Enter your registered mobile number

Type the number linked to your OneRoad account and tap Continue.

3

Enter your SMS code

A fresh 4-digit code is sent each time you sign in. Enter it to access your account.

Once signed in, the app remembers your session. You won't need to sign in again unless you log out or change devices.

Section 4

Starting a Shift

Before you begin driving, start a shift in the app. This activates your EWD recording for the day.

1

Tap "Start Shift" on the home screen

You'll be asked to confirm your starting location and select the vehicle you're operating.

2

Select your vehicle

Choose the vehicle by registration number. If your vehicle isn't listed, contact your fleet manager to have it added before your shift.

3

Confirm your fatigue scheme

The app shows your active fatigue scheme — Standard Hours, BFM, or AFM. Confirm it is correct before proceeding.

If your scheme is incorrect, do not start your shift. Contact your fleet manager or support@oneroad.io to correct it first.
4

Enter your odometer reading

Enter the current odometer reading from the vehicle's dashboard. This is a regulatory requirement.

5

Tap "Begin Shift"

Your EWD is now recording. Your initial status is set to Work automatically.

Shift started. The app records in the background while you drive.

Section 5

Logging Work & Rest

Update your status throughout the day to accurately record your work and rest times for fatigue compliance.

Breach
1

Change your status when it changes in real life

Tap your current status on the home screen to update it. When you stop for a break, switch from Driving to Rest. When you resume, switch back.

2

Record all non-driving work

Loading, pre-trip inspections, and admin all count as Work time — even if you're not behind the wheel. Record these accurately as they contribute to your total work hours.

3

Take rest breaks when the app alerts you

The app notifies you when a rest break is due. Switch to Rest at the start of your break and back to Driving or Work when you resume.

Always update your status in real time. Inaccurate records are a compliance breach regardless of your actual driving time.

Section 6

Two-Up Driving

Two-up driving allows two drivers to share a vehicle and access extended driving periods under specific fatigue rules.

1

Both drivers must be registered in OneRoad

Ensure both drivers have active accounts linked to the same fleet before enabling two-up.

2

Enable Two-Up from the shift menu

From your active shift screen, tap the menu and select Enable Two-Up. Search for the second driver by name or mobile number.

3

Both drivers confirm the arrangement

The second driver receives a prompt in their app to confirm. Both must accept before two-up recording begins.

4

Each driver logs their own status independently

Once active, each driver records their own work and rest. The app automatically links both records to the shared journey.

Under two-up rules, time spent as a non-driving occupant in a moving vehicle may count as rest — subject to your fatigue scheme. Confirm eligibility with your fleet manager.

Section 7

Compliance & Records

The app continuously monitors your fatigue hours and gives you a clear view of your compliance status and work diary history.

1

Check your fatigue status anytime

Your live compliance status is on the home screen. Tap it to see time worked, time rested, and time remaining before your next mandatory break.

2

Act immediately on breach alerts

If the app alerts you to a fatigue breach, pull over safely and rest. The alert details exactly what rest is required and for how long. Do not continue driving.

Driving after a breach alert is a serious offence. Your fleet manager is also notified automatically.
3

View and export your work diary

Tap Records in the bottom navigation to view your full diary. Export as PDF to send to yourself, your fleet manager, or a regulator on request.

4

End your shift

At the end of your day, tap End Shift. Enter your final odometer reading and confirm. Records are saved and stored automatically.

EWD records are stored securely by OneRoad for 3 years — well beyond the minimum regulatory requirement.

Section 8

Troubleshooting

Common issues and how to resolve them quickly.

I didn't receive my SMS verification code

Wait 30 seconds and tap Resend code. Check the number you entered is correct. If the issue continues, check that your phone isn't blocking messages from unknown numbers, then contact support@oneroad.io.

My vehicle isn't showing in the list

Vehicles are added by your fleet manager in the OneRoad portal. Contact your fleet manager and ask them to register the vehicle registration number before your shift.

My fatigue scheme looks incorrect

Do not start your shift. Contact your fleet manager to correct the scheme — Standard Hours, BFM, or AFM — before proceeding. Starting a shift with the wrong scheme will produce non-compliant records.

The app lost my GPS location

Go to your phone's Settings → Privacy → Location Services and set OneRoad to Always. In poor signal areas, the app continues recording time — location syncs when signal returns.

I forgot to record a rest break

Contact your fleet manager immediately. EWD records can be amended by the record keeper within the regulatory timeframe. Accurate records protect both you and your employer.

The app is crashing or not loading

Force-close and reopen the app. Check for a pending update in the App Store or Google Play. If the issue persists on the latest version, email support@oneroad.io with your device model and OS version.
